Eugene raced in the North End Cycling Classic in Yuma, Arizona. The event was a 2-day omnium with an in-town criterium and a 112-mile road race. He finished 2nd in the criterium* and 11th in the road race, earning him 3rd in the overall classification.
(Also racing with him were friends from New York's CRCA/Empire team, Daniel Zmolik and Mike Mathis. Mike finished 3rd in the road race, earning himself 2nd in the general classification and bumping Eugene down a step on the podium. They laughed about it over dinner.)

*The criterium was one hour long. There had been a selection of 13 riders and with 15 minutes remaining, Eugene attacked and rode solo for several laps, but eventually the lead group caught him. But during a lull he counter-attacked and held the gap until one-to-go when Brian Forbes bridged across to him and attacked to win solo. Eugene held the field off for 2nd place.

News story in the Yuma Sun.
