After winning yesterday's points race in Brooklyn,
Pollo again used his finishing speed to finish ahead of the rest in
today's
Spring Series
race in Central Park.
The race was fast-paced as many riders tried to escape the field in
small groups. Many got away, but none stayed. The Toga team, as usual,
were on the offensive and were joined by like-minded riders such as Todd
Herriott (Colavita/Bolla), Roger Aspholm (Westwood Velo), David
Sommerville (Ideal Tile), and other aggressive riders who wanted to
escape. But the Mengoni team kept the race under control to set up Pollo,
whose instructions were, "Just keep it together, and I'll do the rest"
(in Spanish, of course). Pollo won the sprint to claim his third win of
the season.
Results:
1. Rosevelt Martes, G.S.Mengoni
2. Edwin Morel, GS Gotham
3. L Quintero, GS Gotham
4. M Cheuner, Rio Grande
5. H Burrowes
6. Melito Heredia, GS Gotham
7. Kevin Browne, Colavita
8. Luis Aquino, GS Gotham
9. Alex Meyer, NE Hardware
10. Dan Zmolik, Cuevas
Notes:
A rider was told that his mother would be proud, after very politely
asking to be let out from the middle of the field and thanking the
riders for providing the opening.
The Spring Series
is being led by masters racer Bernie McGarry (CTS) who, after today, is
leading Pollo by 60 points. If both Pollo and Bernie win the last two of
their races, Bernie will still lead by 36 points.
