Pollo Wins in Brooklyn - Sunday, April 11, 2004 at 10:24
The event was run as a points-race format with sprints every third lap (of 15), where the winner is the rider with the most accumulated points. Although both Rosevelt "Pollo" Martes (G.S.Mengoni) and Kevin Molloy (CRCA/Sakonnet) scored well in the first two sprints, Molloy got into a breakaway and won a sprint in which Pollo was shut out. This put Molloy in the lead mid-way through the race. Later, Pollo bridged up to the break but soon the lead group was caught by the field. There was some confusion about the number of remaining laps, and two sprints were missed, so it all came down to the final, which held double value for the points earned. Pollo won the final sprint, and Molloy didn't score. When the points were tallied, only one point separated the two riders, and Pollo was the winner.
